Pasco Water Reuse Partnership

Cascade Natural Gas Joins Pasco Water Reuse Partnership

Officials from Cascade Natural Gas joined industry partners and government representatives from across the region at the ribbon cutting ceremony in April to celebrate the opening of a new wastewater facility that will produce renewable natural gas (RNG) for Cascade.

The Resource Recovery Center will turn industrial process waste into clean water, generate RNG and help the region’s agribusinesses expand.  The Tri-Cities region is one of the leading food production and processing centers in the Northwest.

The project, a partnership between the city of Pasco, Burnham RNG, Sustainable Energy Ventures and others, will result in Cascade acquiring more than three million therms of RNG each year. The plant’s output is equivalent to meeting the energy usage of about 5,000 residential customers.

Alyn Spector, manager of external affairs, who participated in the ceremony, points out that the new Pasco facility is the third one in Washington to partner with Cascade, and combined, the three projects are capable of producing more than five million therms of RNG a year.

Spector adds that Cascade is “proud to support these efforts as we work with our communities to identify pathways to comply with state policies like the Climate Commitment Act (CCA) in Washington and the Climate Protection Program (CPP) in Oregon.

The $180 million Pasco facility is the largest algae-based wastewater treatment facility in the world.
