Orchard Terrace Condos Invests in Weatherization with Hot Water Pipe Insulation

The CNGC Commercial and Industrial Conservation Incentive Program has helped Orchard Terrace Condos save operational costs and improve the comfort level of their building for residents.

Project Bottom-line Benefits:

  • $11,730 cash incentive
  • 4,692 therms saved annually

Story:

Orchard Terrace Condos is investing in projects to weatherize the 72-year-old property and improve comfort for residents. With the installation of water pipe insulation, the condos are estimated to save more than 4,600 therms annually. The property received a total incentive of $11,730 from the Cascade Natural Gas (CNGC) Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency program to offset the cost of the facility upgrades.

Tom Crawford, board member of Orchard Terrace Condos, is pleased with the outcome of the insulation project and said, “I am excited to show the improvements via the reduced gas use, but I can say I could not be happier with the outcome and how we got here.”

The condos reduced energy use and improved efficiency by installing water pipe insulation in the basements where residents access storage and laundry rooms. Before the insulation project, the 150°F water traveling through pipes in these common areas made the rooms uncomfortably hot – up to 90°F. After the insulation project, these spaces are cool and comfortable for residents.

By leveraging CNGC incentives for this project, Crawford said the property is “saving on operational costs [that] can be diverted to other projects” to continue improving the property.

CNGC provides cash incentives for eligible commercial customers installing a wide variety of qualifying equipment such as new windows, insulation in flooring, attics, roofs, or walls, water heating equipment, and space heating equipment.
